Mike and David Brailer (right) listen to futurist and author Ray Kurzweil during a discussion about the future of medical research and how patients may be diagnosed and treated in the coming decades. Brailer was appointed by President Bush as the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and Kurzweil is the author of The Age of Spiritual Machines, When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence. Also on the panel at the Milken Institute's 2005 Global Conference was Craig Venter, who pioneered the sequencing of the human genome and is the founder of the J. Craig Venter Science Foundation.
