When the Milken Family Foundation notifies educators that they are winners of a Milken National Educator Award, it's always presented in a surprise, inspiring ceremony in front of the entire school. Inevitably, media outlets cover the events because of the excitement generated when an educator is publicly recognized in front of peers and students. Since 1987, 2,300 outstanding kindergarten-through-12th-grade educators in 48 states have been recognized and celebrated with unrestricted, individual Milken Educator Awards of $25,000.
