Jamilla Rice, AP English teacher and Director of Curiculum at Northside Urban Pathways Charter School in Pittsburgh, wipes a tear from her eye after Mike Milken presented her with a Milken Educator Award, which includes a $25,000 check and an invitation to the annual Milken Educator Forum. Fully 81 percent of students at the school qualify for free and reduced-lunch programs, yet all of Rice’s students have been accepted into colleges for the past two years. The Foundation has honored more than 2,500 educators from coast to coast with unrestricted cash awards. |
