Elizabeth Galinis left her career at the National Academy of Sciences to become a teacher at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia. Enrollment in her classes has doubled since she started teaching, and the word around campus is that her classes are one of the “must-takes.” That’s the kind of teaching excellence and expertise that earns a Milken Educator Award, and when Mike surprised Galinis with her award she immediately called her family. The Milken Family Foundation has awarded thousands of Educator Awards to public-school educators across America; each award includes a $25,000 check and an invitation to the annual Milken Educator Forum.
